Kerry Logistics starts third phase expansion at Thai port
Date:2012-02-14 Readers:

Kerry Logistics has broken ground on the expansion of Kerry Siam Seaport (KSSP), one of the leading multipurpose ports in Asia. Construction started on the third phase of its facility at Laem Chabang in Thailand. Completion is due in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Growing demand at KSSP bulk and container terminals triggered the expansion with installation of two new container rotation systems and 31 system boxes for bulk loading.

KSSP will also add two 150m-long berths, which are expected to be completed by September 2012. Once completed KSSP will have 10 operational berths with a total length of 1,500m.

“The expansion has been driven by growing demand across the bulk and box trades and the new berths will help us increase capacity and efficiency across our terminals,” said Kledchai Benjaathonsirikul, executive director, Thailand, Kerry Logistics.

KSSP has been operating since 1995, starting with four conventional berths with a combined length of 720m. In 2011, throughput reached six million tonnes of bulk cargo and 160,000 TEUs. The total annual throughput at KSSP is targeted to exceed seven million tonnes in 2012.
