NYK Logistics renews contract with Honda UK
Date:2009-08-03 Readers:

NYK Logistics is supporting Honda UK Manufacturing (HUM) as it resumes production at its Swindon plant, eyefortransport reports. Having worked closely with HUM on the phased conversion of its UK suppliers from delivered to ex-works, NYK recently renewed its contract with HUM for another two years, and will continue to provide collection and JIT delivery of components from 53 of Honda's UK suppliers to five delivery locations in line with HUM's production schedule.

With cars rolling off the assembly line once more, HUM and NYK are focusing on further efficiency and cost savings, and a revised planning process has been implemented to ensure maximised utilisation of vehicles.

In support of the operation, NYK employs 90 people and a fleet of 35 vehicles that complete 250 routes per week.

HUM originally appointed NYK Logistics in 2006 to plan and implement a JIT inbound transport operation from its UK suppliers into its manufacturing plant at Swindon.

In other news, NYK Logistics was recently awarded a contract by Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) to provide inbound logistics services to its manufacturing facility in Sunderland, to support production of the Micra, Note and Qashqai.

NYK Logistics is responsible for the delivery of nearly 800 different parts to the plant, from 47 UK-based suppliers.

It is a highly time sensitive operation, with Nissan holding minimal stock on site.

The operation is based at NYK's strategic site in Castleford, with regional support from Avonmouth and Milton Keynes. Additional flexibility is provided to Nissan by means of NYK's.
