TIACA conference delegates slam TSA 100pc screening end-of-year deadline
Date:2011-05-31 Readers:

THE International Air Cargo Association's (TIACA) has slammed proposals for 100 per cent screening of all international inbound passenger bellyhold cargo by December 31 which it feels will result in major supply chain disruptions.

The panel session at its Bangkok summit included updates from TSA Doug Britton and AAPA director general Andrew Herdman who listened to Delta Air Lines vice-president Neel Shah's concerns over further progress in certification of foreign country air cargo security programmes.

"Unless TSA and, more broadly speaking, the entire US government focuses the necessary resources on reviewing the process and timeline by which foreign security programmes are validated and placed into the TSA's National Cargo Security Programme (NCSP), we will face some significant disruptions to the global supply chain," he said.

Although the TSA deadline was fast forwarded two years early it is still a date under review, said Mr Brittin, who will maintain dialogue with TIACA chairman Michael Steen in response to its members' concerns in Asia and globally.
