AUTHORITIES should be wary of schemes to build air cargo logistics hubs simply because old air strips can be had cheaply, Cincinnati's Landrum & Brown aviation consultant Daniel Muscatello told the recent Ohio Conference on Freight.
It would be better to look within a 50-mile radius for key new tenants or other air park users instead of starting by looking far afield or in other countries, he said. If one of those area businesses can be sold, then the air park is already ahead of competitors, Mr Muscatello said.
Mr Mustcatello said US has a surplus of former military airports with huge runways, much of land and many dreams of landing big air freight operations when there is little need for them, reported Columbus, Ohio's Business First.
"Everyone in North America wants to build a logistics park or airport city," he said.
