Reefer men meet at Cool Logistics Africa 2012 April 24-26 in Cape Town

    THE Cool Logistics Africa 2012 conference will be held on April 24-26 April at the Vineyard Hotel & Spa in Cape Town, assembling key players to discuss how to deliver cold chain capacity, services and skills for Africa to compete in world perishables markets, increase regional trade and ensure efficient distribution for food imports.

    The two-day conference will be followed by a one-day workshop focusing on practical cold chain skills and technology development.

    Expected are Chris Blankenberg, reefer trade manager at MSC; Paul Bletterman, CEO of Kenfreight; Koos Bouwer, principal, Koos Bouwer Consulting; Mitchell Brooke, logistics development manager of the Citrus Growers Association of Southern Africa; Ulises Carrillo, vice president global logistics at Dole Food Company; Andy Connell, business unit manager shipping and logistics at Dole Foods South Africa; Abrie de Swardt, managing director of Capespan Exports; Malcolm Dodd, managing director of Cold Chain Solutions; Delena Engelbrecht, CEO of Go Reefers and Mark Hassenkamp, general manager, Africa at Chiquita Brands International.

    Speakers and moderators will be Andre Jooste, manager of market and economic research at the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC); Deon Joubert, general manager operations at Capespan Exports; Iain McIntosh, general manager sales at MOL Liner; Sam Moffitt, general manager South Africa at Hamburg Sud; Tau Morwe, chief executive of Transnet National Ports Authority; Mariaan Rademan, managing director at Aspen Logistics; Marc Rooms, global reefer sales manager at Safmarine; John Rowland, vice president of NYK Cool; Danie Schoeman, managing director of Fresh Produce Terminal; Hasit Shah, director at Sunripe; Stuart Symington, CEO-designate, PPECB; Marianna Theyse, general manager of the South African Fresh Produce Import Association and managing partner of PhytoSolutions Consultancy; Arnaud Thibault, regional managing director, CMA CGM; Christo van der Meer, supply chain consultant at FloraHolland; Bob Weyn, managing director, Gateway Marine Service and David Williams, head of the Maersk southern Africa cluster.

    Delegates will visit Two-a-Day and the Kromco packhouses in the Elgin Valley to see sorting, packing, cooling, storing and marketing operations. These packhouses are of the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere.
