THE first train of the river-rail intermodal service from Chongqing to Sichuan province has left Chongqing Railway South Station to Chengdu's Chengxiang Railway Station, Xinhua reports.
The containers carried on the train was first shipped to Chongqing's Cuntan port area on Yangtze River, then transported on trucks to Chongqing Railway South Station before loaded on to the train bound for Chengdu. The train journey lasts 19 hour, 10 hours shorter than by common cargo train.
The service is jointly launched by Chengdu Railway Bureau and Chongqing's railway, road and waterway transportation authorities aiming to enhance efficiency of cargo flow between the two places.
