DHL, the world's leading logistics company has launched its Less than Container Load (LCL) service connecting Tanjung Pelepas in Johor to Hong Kong, making DHL Global Forwarding one of the first service providers to have direct LCL coverage from Hong Kong to all Malaysian container ports.
The new weekly service between Hong Kong and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia offers a transit time of just five days between the two ports.
The company said the service will connect mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea in North Asia Pacific along with Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and India in South Asia Pacific to Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, allowing Asian exporters to reach destinations in Malaysia in shorter times than previously available and to capture a higher proportion of Malaysian market share.
According to Amadou Diallo, CEO, Africa and South Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding: "The service is widely used by customers across many industries as it offers the flexibility of shipping smaller quantities in a timely manner. This will also enable both north and south Asia Pacific exporters to better tap into the immense international opportunities this market offers."
Marc Meier, vice president, ocean freight and head of global LCL, DHL Global Forwarding said: "The launch of this new weekly LCL services to Tanjung Pelepas is one of many service expansions by DHL this year. Other recent expansions include LCL services between Hong Kong and San Jose in Costa Rica and Constanta in Romania. Some of the advantages that customers will gain from these new developments include unrivalled coverage across various regions including Malaysia, smooth transition from freight collection through to delivery and fast, reliable and cost efficient service for shipments".
According to the Port Klang Authority, Port of Tanjung Pelepas had a container throughput rise of 16 per cent in the first half of 2011, handling 3.6 million TEU.
