Logistics
Logistics and supply chain technology segment shows considerable growth
Date:2012-06-04 Readers:

Inbound Logistics' editors surveyed more than 200 logistics IT vendors and analyzed the findings based on year-over-year comparisons. Survey results reveal logistics IT industry growth. Eighty-six percent of IT companies responding to Inbound Logistics' survey say they grew their client roster by at least five percent in 2011 – and 28 percent of respondents grew their customer base by 20 percent.
Web-based solutions drive the lion's share of growth. Thirty-five percent of respondents offer only Web, Software-as-a-Service, or hosted solutions. By contrast, the majority – 58 percent – offer both locally installed and Web-hosted solutions. Only seven percent of surveyed vendors provide locally installed technology solutions exclusively.
Other key takeaways from the Inbound Logistics research report:
- Software vendor profits are up. Eighty-six percent of survey respondents increased their profit by more than 5 percent, while 39 percent reported an increase in revenue beyond 20 percent.
- Supply chain management software is the most common solution offering, with 70 percent of survey respondents providing those products.
- Transportation and logistics service providers remain the most important segment for technology vendors, especially as intermediaries continue to expand their value propositions with new solution capabilities.
Inbound Logistics' April 2012 issue also contains the Top 100 Logistics IT Providers list. Inbound Logistics' editors selected 100 technology providers demonstrating an understanding of shippers' logistics and supply chain challenges. Inbound Logistics' editors also chose providers whose technology solutions are central to solving transportation, logistics, and supply chain challenges, and whose customer successes are well-documented.
Inbound Logistics' April 2012 issue features its exclusive Logistics Technology Market Research Report, including the Top 100 Logistics IT Providers list. The annual report provides decision support for business leaders looking to apply the latest supply chain technology to become better global competitors, and serve customers faster and more efficiently.
