Guangzhou's container volume increases 13.4pc in 2011 to 14.4 million TEU

    PORT of Guangzhou lifted 14.4 million TEU in 2011, 13.4 per cent more than in 2010. Its throughput tonnage increased five per cent to 448 million tonnes, Xinhua reports.

    Guangzhou's seaport facilities handled 14.23 million TEU, up 13.4 per cent. Overall tonnage grew five per cent to 431 million tonnes.

    Last year, Guangzhou invested CNY2.75 billion (US$436 million) on port infrastructures, 5.8 per cent more than in 2010. Some CNY750 million was spent on navigation channel projects, accounting for 27.3 per cent of the total.
