Latvian ports' full-year volume increases 12.5pc to 68.8 million tons

    CARGO turnover at Latvian ports of Freeport Riga, Freeport of Ventspils, Liepaja was up 12.5 per cent to 68.8 million tons in 2011 year on year with bulk cargo making up most of turnover at almost half, a year-on-year increase of 18.1 per cent.

    According to Latvia's transport ministry's data, the biggest increase was marked at Ventspils with 28.45 million tons, a jump of 14.7 per cent, Freeport of Riga was up 11.7 per cent to 34.05 million tons of cargo and Liepaja hit 4.86 million tons, a 10.8 per cent increase.

    More than half the overall tonnage was dry bulk liquid at 23.13 million tons, up nine per cent, with general cargo increasing 5.1 per cent to 11.95 million tons.
