IMPORT container volume through the northern west coast Canadian Port of Prince Rupert increased 20 per cent year on year to 410,366 TEU in 2011, while its bigger rival to the south, the Port of Vancouver's performance was flat repeating its 2.5 million TEU record set in 2010.

Vancouver's containerised imports increased 17 per cent, offsetting a slight drop in exports. Total cargo tonnage in 2011 grew 3.4 per cent year on year to 112.5 million tonnes, with Asian exports and imports contributing 78 per cent of the annual traffic.
