US has decided to raise the issue of bottlenecks in the Indian ports with the Indian officials, said Francisco J Sanchez, visiting Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, here.
Sanchez, said, “I will share the concerns of US companies here about the port infrastructure. There is congestion at the port that inhibit growth, particularly in the auto sector.”
Sanchez is leading a delegation of 12-US firms eyeing for business opportunities in India in the areas of ports and logistics.
It is expected that there will be 65-Indian cities with a population of more than one million by 2030. It represents good opportunity for the US firms operating in infrastructure sector such as power.
While speaking at the luncheon meeting organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Sanchez has stated that the bilateral trade in goods between India and the US in 2011 was almost $58 billion, rise from $49 billion in 2010.
The important US firms such as Cisco, General Electric and IBM have been placing research and development facilities in India with the aim to utilise the talent here for business growth.
The present infrastructure in India is not sufficient to support the economic growth of India.
