Jul.20--GENEVA's Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has dropped calls to Charleston and Port Everglades on its revised east coast North America/Freeport String 2 service.
MSC has removed one of the two vessels and cut the round trip in half to seven days, deploying a single 3,840-TEU ship, which will now call at Philadelphia, New York, Freeport (Bahamas) and back to Philadelphia, reports ComPair Data.
Before, the two-ship string operated weekly using two 3,155-TEU ships, calling at Philadelphia, New York, Charleston, Port Everglades, Freeport and back to Philadelphia.
Freeport, 100 miles off West Palm Beach, Florida, is now MSC's offshore transoceanic transit hub with feeders connecting it with 13 eastern seaboard ports from Montreal and Veracruz. Mobile and Boston are also served by MSC, but not by Freeport feeders.
