2009 Shanghai International Green Building and Ecological Environment Development Conference

The “2009 Shanghai International Green Building and Ecological Environment Development Conference” was successfully held at the 3rd floor of Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale oriental Shanghai Hotel in Pudong New Area, Shanghai on June 5, 2009. The participants included Mr. An Zhendong, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society (former Vice Governor of Heilongjiang Province and Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Heilongjiang People's Congress);, Mr. Yang Shen, Honorary President of China Real Estate Association (former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China); Huang Dingye, Vice President of Tongji University; Mr. Dai, architectural design expert and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering as well as professor and doctoral supervisor of Tongji University; Mr. Tang Dingding, Director and Secretary of CPC Committee of Environmental Development Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection; Mr. Wu Zhiqiang, Chief Planner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China; Mr. Xing Tonghe, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, Chief Designer of Shanghai XianDai Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. and Director of Shanghai Architect Research Center of World Expo 2010; Mr. Li, Executive Vice President of China Technology Market Association under the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China; Ms. Song Ling, Director of the Green Building Office under the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development; Mr. Ding, Full-time Vice Chairman of Shanghai Pudong Association for Science & Technology; Mr. Chen Jie, Deputy Director of the Environmental Development Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection; Mr. Guang, Deputy Director of Shanghai Pudong New Area Construction and Transportation Commission; as well as representatives from some other enterprises and public institutions. Jointly organized by the Environmental Development Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Science and Technology Development Promotion Center of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development as well as Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, the conference gained strong supports from enterprises and public institutions.


The theme of WED 2009 is "Your Planet Needs You! Unite to Combat Climate Change", while the theme of the conference activities is "No Pollution From Now On". The conference suggested the real estate development industry in particular to pay attention to the global environment and the potential hazards caused by human activities to the environment. Themed "Development Practice of Green Building, Sustainable Green Living and Ecological Environment", the meeting involved teenagers into a series of activities, including "Essay Contest for Primary and Secondary School Students of Shanghai to Greet the World Expo, Protect the Environment and Build a Civilized City", encouraging green consumption, garbage reduction and classification, waste recovery and recycling, as well as water and electricity saving, so as to usher in Shanghai Expo through concrete actions. The conference also included the “2009 Urban Development Zone Construction Investment and Green Building Components Introduction Meeting”, targeting on enterprises in the spheres of real estate, decoration, building materials and furniture manufacturing.


Mr. Yang Shen, Chairman of this conference, Honorary President of China Real Estate Association and Vice Chairman of China Federation of Industrial Economics (former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China) delivered a keynote speech on how to "Deal with Climate Change, Protect the Environment, Cherish Life and Realize Sustainable Human Development". Mr. Qi Keqin, Secretary-General of this conference and Director of Shanghai Green and Ecological Building Technology Promotion Center, read out the congratulatory letter from Mr. Wang Guangtao, Chairman of the NPC Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee. Ms. Song Ling, Director of the Green Building Identity Management Office under the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, read out the congratulatory letter from Mr. Qiu Baoxing. She also wished that, through borrowing the experience of advanced countries in green building, China's green buildings may promote a healthy development of China's building energy conservation. Mr. An Zhendong, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society (former Vice Governor of Heilongjiang Province), proposed building green campuses and improving the awareness of environmental protection among the entire population of the country. Mr. Tian Weihua, Deputy Director of Pudong New Area, pointed out that the forum is also an impetus to create a national eco-city in Pudong New Area. He highlighted the importance of promoting eco-city construction based on innovative development of science and technologies, and actively exploring new development mechanisms for land conservation in order to reduce the development costs of Pudong. On behalf of the organizers, Mr. Shen Weiguo, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Jinqiao (Group) Co., Ltd., addressed the conference and expressed great expectations for green building development. Mr. Wu Zhiqiang, Chief Planner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, Assistant to President of Tongji University and Dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University, delivered a speech themed "Ecological Concept of Shanghai World Expo - Green Expo and Ecological Planning". Other professionals, relevant experts and scholars from enterprises and public institutions also made speeches to discuss the harmonious development of green buildings and ecological environment, leading to a warm atmosphere.
