GAC offers to help clients cope with new EU customs rules
Date:2010-12-31 Readers:

Global logistics provider GAC Group has expressed confidence that it can help clients worldwide meet the new requirements of the new European Union Customs regulations that will come into effect in January.
As part of the implementation of the Import Control System (ICS) Customs process, it is now mandatory for carriers to electronically provide advance information for goods being imported from non-EU countries into the European Union, Norway and Switzerland - or transiting them - to the relevant country's customs authority.
"Although the new law states that it's the carrier's responsibility to present the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS) to the customs, GAC recognises that it may initially be difficult for them to provide the relevant information in the required detail and format and on time," said Erland Ebbersten, GAC's Group vice president, Europe, Mediterranean, Africa and the Americas.
"GAC is on hand to ensure we can provide continuous data exchange," he said in a company statement. "We have expertise on every aspect of the legislation, from EORI numbers to the varying time limits for lodging the ENS depending on means and duration of transportation. GAC's experts know all the ins and outs of the new regulations and can smooth the way through this potential minefield for its clients."
To ensure smooth facilitation, GAC added that it is preparing a central IT solution for all European countries to benefit from "once they are ready."
