Wuxi-Hong Kong all-cargo flights to start on April 10
Date:2010-04-08 Readers:

THE all-cargo service from eastern China city Wuxi to Hong Kong is scheduled to commence operation April 10, offering greater convenience to shippers in the city and its neighbouring regions, Xinhua reported.

The service offers two flights per week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, taking off at 1435 hrs from Wuxi. Flight number is J56268.

An unnamed person from Wuxi airport said cargo in the city had to be carried in passenger aircraft bellyholds before the launch of the all-cargo service, resulting in low cargo throughput - below 50,000 tonnes a year. A study by the customs shows that Wuxi and its neighbouring cities of Jiangsu and Changzhou have great potential in international air cargo traffic, and it is necessary for these regions to start all-cargo services.

Another reason for the new service is that Shanghai, which these region relies heavily on transshipping their trade cargo from, will tighten its security control for seven months after April 15 for the World Expo, seriously affecting traffic.

Wuxi will also officially start negotiations with Japan and Korea on a new all-cargo service to Korea later in April. The new service will hopefully be launched in the later half of this year.
