New Orleans volume increases 11.6pc in 2011 - up 46pc since 2009
Date:2012-02-14 Readers:

THE Port of New orleans posted an 11.6 per cent growth in volume to 476,413 TEU in 2011 year on year, and a 46 per cent increase from 2009 because of strong exports and its new US$38 million Napoleon Avenue container terminal.

Its export growth was highest for chemicals and agricultural products and for imports in coffee and apparel, according to a report from the port authority, reports American Shipper.

The port's proximity to the Midwest has helped to boost its carrier base with CMA CGM having launched a new Latin American container service last year.

The Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal has received two new container gantry cranes which will help to handle volumes at its expanded terminal yard.
