Tianjin airport Phase 2 expansion project wins NDRC approval

    CHINA'S National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has given green light to the Phase 2 expansion project in Tianjin's Binhai International Airport, Xinhua reports.

    The expansion project includes building a 248,000-square-metre new terminal, a 322,000-square-metre cargo handling area, a 42,300 square metre service area, 43 parking stands, three taxi ways as well as fuel supply, air traffic control facilities. After completion, the airport will have a capacity of 1.7 million tonnes and 25 million passengers in 2020.



    Tianjin airport currently has 116,000 square metre terminal, a 760,000 square metre parking apron and 29 parking stands. It is now able to handle 600,000 million tonnes of cargo and 10 million passengers a year.



    Last year, the airport handled 202,000 million tonnes of cargo and 7.28 million passengers. Cargo throughput increased 14.6 per cent and passenger volume increased 31.3 per cent year on year. Passenger volume is expected to surpass 10 million by 2012.
