AIR China Cargo has inaugurated a new route between two world's cargo hubs of Shanghai and Hong Kong while recommencing the Shanghai-Dallas scheduled service, Xinhua reports.
According to Airport Council International's (ACI) statistical figures, Hong Kong International Airport was the world's largest cargo airport with a throughput of 4.17 million tonnes last year, while Shanghai's Pudong International Airport handled 3.23 million tonnes, with a faster growth of 27 per cent than Hong Kong, ranking at the third. The launch of the new service will enhance the effectiveness of Air China's current network.
The US is one of the key markets of Air China Cargo, and the resumption of Shanghai-Dallas service will further strengthen the carrier's network in west, central and east US.
Air China Cargo launched the Beijing-Dallas line in 2006 and later on extended the route to Shanghai, which was later suspended in the downturn.
Air China Cargo, a joint venture of Air China and Cathay Pacific, has a fleet of 10 Boeing 747-400 freighters with a network covering Europe, America and Asia Pacific. It is also operating the bellyhold cargo service of 272 passenger aircraft of Air China to 141 destinations across the world and is in cooperation of space swap, code sharing and special pro rata agreement (SPA) with a number of carriers.
