LIUZHOU Airport, in southwest China's Guangxi Autonomous Region, handled 3,584 tonnes of cargo from January to September, up 32.1 per cent year on year, Xinhua reports.
In the first nine months of the year, Liuzhou airport recorded aircraft movement of 6,626 flights, a surge of 167.8 per cent, which kept it as the fastest-growing airport in China.
Passenger throughput increased 96.8 per cent to 435,000 people. Liuzhou was also China's fastest-growing airport in terms of passenger volume in January, April, June, July and August.
In the Golden Week holiday period from October 1 - 7, the airport recorded an aircraft movement of 194 flights, up 230 per cent year on year. Passenger volume doubled the figure in the same period a year ago to 12,000 people. Cargo throughput grew 18 per cent to 46 tonnes.
Two new services of Kunming-Liuzhou-Hangzhou and Liuzhou-Nanjing are soon to be launched at the airport. Meanwhile, the Chengdu-Liuzhou-Shenzhen service will also increase frequency. By the end of this year, Liuzhou airport's passenger volume is expected to hit 600,000 people, while cargo throughput reaching 5,000 tonnes.
Liuzhou airport operates 11 services with 110 flights weekly to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Sanya, Haikou, Xiamen, Wenzhou, Xian, Changsha and Qingdao.
