THE Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has concluded collaborative agreements with Cranfield University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), which outline the framework for collaboration between CAAS and each institution on the joint development of specialised, aviation programmes.
These aviation programmes will involve CAAS's training arm, the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA). The courses are designed to focus on areas, such as, air transport management, airport planning and management, aeronautical science, public policy in aviation, and aviation leadership.
"As the Asia Pacific region's aviation industry continues on a growth trajectory, there is a need to train leaders and professionals to advance their careers in aviation and to ensure its sustainable growth," said CAAS director general Yap Ong Heng.
By collaborating with institutes of higher learning, both domestic and foreign, "we are able to provide a comprehensive range of aviation-focused programmes that will contribute to making Singapore a centre of excellence for aviation knowledge and human capital development".
Cranfield University will be offering two masters programmes in collaboration with SAA, namely, the Master of Science (MSc) in Air Transport Management and the Master of Science (MSc) in Airport Planning and Management.
Leveraging on CAAS's experience in aviation planning, governance and regulation, SAA will provide the regional perspectives and practical learning for the programmes.
Following the launch of its Master of Business Administration in Aviation (MBAA) in Singapore, ERAU will be offering its second programme in association with SAA. The Master of Aeronautical Science (MAS) programme is targeted at aviation and aerospace industry professionals looking to broaden their knowledge in aeronautics and safety systems.
