GERMAN express giant DHL has partnered with the Urban Planet pavilion, the central theme of Shanghai Expo's overall drive for "Better City, Better Life" with an expected attendance of 70 million people the 5.4 square mile world fair ground.

Deutsche Post DHL, the parent company, has committed itself to a quantified climate protection target to improve its carbon dioxide efficiency by 30 per cent by 2020 since 2007.

The exhibition aims to highlight the company's GOGREEN products of City Logistics and the group's commitment to its Deutschland und China (DuC) Project run over three years in the cities of Chongqing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Wuhan.

The centre piece of Expo will be the Chinese Urban Planet pavilion which starts with the "Road of Crisis" to present the destruction of the planet and with the next step "Road of Solutions" to present greener future which include the DHL Smart Truck solution.

The DHL Smart Truck solution calculates the most efficient delivery route. Traffic jams, detours and instant orders are managed thereby reducing city traffic and saving emissions.

"As the world's biggest logistics provider, we recognise a special responsibility to use our core competencies to minimise the impact on the environment and give back to the larger society," said DHL chief executive officer Frank Appel in a statement. "We are committed to continuing to invest in green technologies and want to demonstrate at the Expo what we consider innovative, sustainable logistics."
