DHL starts rapid LCL service from Europe to America

DHL global forwarding has launched a new less than container load (LCL) service connecting Europe to the US through its in-house ocean carrier Danmar Lines, the company has announced.

The new service combines LCL ocean and less than truck load (LTL) truck services improving delivery times to the US.

Called "LCL Expedited", shipments will arrive in New York from all big ports in Europe and trucked on to the customer's door within three to four business days.

Traditional LCL ocean services could take anywhere from five to 16 days or more to US destinations coming through New York.

The service is similar to that of LCL Expedited Asia launched in 2007, noted the UK's Transport Intelligence. The LCL Expedited Asia service has grown in scope and now covers all major ports in Asia as well as two ports in India, from its initial launch in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

"Our ability to continually expand our service portfolio underlines our commitment to offer best-in-class solutions for customers," said Tara Caputo, director LCL services North America, DHL Global Forwarding.

"In the highly competitive business landscape, companies are faced with the challenge of responding faster to market and customer demands. Our direct LCL services offer cost-efficient solutions that meet customers' needs and support healthy trade to the US," she said.
