American Feeder Lines starts US-Canada east coast Boston-Halifax service
Date:2011-06-15 Readers:

START-UP American Feeder Lines said it will launch its new coastal service this week which begins with a short-sea Boston-Portland-Halifax loop.

The Massachusetts Port Authority said the new service will call Tuesdays at Boston's Conley Container Terminal from June 14, reports Newark's Journal of Commerce.

"The New England-Halifax Shuttle is great news for Boston providing New England shippers with a vital connection to eastern Canada's main transshipment hub," said Massport port director Mike Leone.

The rotation will be Boston, Portland, Halifax and back to Boston deploying a 700-TEU ship, following the old route of the former Yankee Clipper feeder service that carried Hapag-Lloyd containers.

AFL is seeking financing for its plan to build ten 1,300-TEU ships, that will service routes along the entire Atlantic and Gulf coasts.
