China Airlines earnings rise more than expected
Date:2010-07-15 Readers:

China Airlines, Taiwan's leading airline, posted US$375.65 million in June sales, up 84.69 percent from a year earlier and better than institutional investors' expectations, reported Taiwan Economic Times.

CAL said its overall sales in June declined 0.32 percent from the previous month due to falling cargo transportation sales.

An industry insider predicted CAL's after-tax earnings will exceed $186.33 million in the first half.

Capital Securities researcher P.H. Tsao said CAL's core-business earnings would surpass $127.32 million in the second quarter, double that of the previous quarter.

CAL's overall after-tax earnings in the first quarter totalled $79.5 million, including $25.77 million in earnings recovered from earlier-booked losses in fuel costs.
