U.K. ferry operator Stena Line has announced it will acquire the Northern Irish operations of DFDS, a large ferry operator headquartered in Copenhagen.
The transaction included the Liverpool to Belfast route with two chartered ro-pax vessels, Lagan Seaways and Mersey Seaways, and the Heysham to Belfast route with two ro-ro vessels, Scotia Seaways and Hibernia Seaways. The purchase is subject to regulatory approval, according to a company statement.
Stena Line also announced it would close its route between Fleetwood and Larne at the end of this year due to “serious losses.” The new routes will provide similar shipping coverage.
