CEVA Logistics is launching an expedited surface freight service between the U.S. Gulf Coast and Alberta, Canada, aimed at the energy sector, the company said Friday.

CEVA says what it calls the Alberta Express service will use its basic forwarding operations and systems to offer rapid transport between markets focused on the oil and gas industry.

 “The market has changed drastically over the past two years and by offering this international service for our energy customers that’s supported by CEVA’s own facilities in the Gulf Coast and Alberta, we can truly become a one-stop solution,” Bruce Hulings, CEVA’s vice president for energy solutions, said in a statement.

CEVA likened the service to its existing direct service between Mexico and Ontario, Canada, which the forwarder said handles more than 500,000 kilos a month.

Canada and the United States have the largest energy trade relationship in the world, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce, with Canada providing 17 percent of U.S. oil imports and 18 percent of U.S. natural gas demand. Canada is planning Arctic pipelines and liquefied natural gas terminals that will call for more construction materials and when complete will send more natural gas to other points in North America.
