Prof. Shen Delivered Academic Report at “Academic Symposium on Ship Sale, Purchase and Financing Risks”

Shanghai Jiao Tong University held an Academic Symposium on Ship Sale, Purchase and Financing Risks through October 23th and 25th, 2009, in order to help shipping enterprises, ship enterprises, ship financing banks and ship financial leasing enterprises deal with financial crisis, strengthen their understanding and mastering of legal risks in relation to ship sale, purchase, financing and leasing, enhance their ability to handle disputes, and protect their own interests. Upon invitation, Prof. Shen Qiuming, Deputy Executive Director of SISI Shipping Policy and Law Institute presented a wonderful academic report on legal issues related to ship financing and real rights on October 25, answering issues raised by representatives in a relatively warm atmosphere.


Prof. Shen Qiuming expressed his opinions on the impacts of 2007 Real Right Law on the ship real right system and noteworthy problems during ship financing activities, mainly involving the following four aspects: (1) real rights in ships and their specificity; (2) main content of ship real rights; (3) impact of the Real Right Law on the ship real rights; (4) ship financing, sale and purchase. The report was also interspersed with analyses on relevant cases appearing in the maritime administration of justice and law enforcement in recent years. The report was well appreciated by participating representatives.
