On the afternoon of January 25, 2011, Vice Consul Ravi Buck, Economic Consul David Ng and Trade Commissioner Ada Rong visited Shanghai Maritime University, conducting survey and research on relevant issues about the development of the Port of Shanghai. On behalf of the University, Secretary-General Zhen Hong of Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) received the guests, and expressed warm welcome for their visit.
During the talk, Mr. Ravi Buck raised issues related to the future potential of the Port of Shanghai, the position of shipping service sector in the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, and the relationship of the Port of Shanghai with surrounding ports, etc. Mr. Zhen Hong gave detailed answers to these questions. He stated that the Port of Shanghai have ranked first among global ports in terms of cargo throughput and container throughput in 2010. Thus, there won’t be much space for future development in throughput. In the process of the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, the more important is to enhance the quality of shipping services. To achieve this, the advanced management mode and operating experience of developed countries will be worthy of learning from.
Finally, Mr. Ravi Buck expressed his thanks to Mr. Zhen Hong for the reception and expected more mutual cooperation and exchange in the future.
