Organized by the Department of Water Transport under the Ministry of Transport, operated by Shanghai Maritime University and implemented by Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI), the First Advanced Training Course for Port Administrators was successfully held in Shanghai from June 14 to 17, 2011. The Course discussed the professional fields of port logistics, and shared experiences and approaches among government officers. The main contents included Analysis on Port Development Trend in China; Laws, Regulations and Practices of Ports; Modern Port Development and Transformation; Port Operation and Management Innovation; Port Planning and Construction Management; and Domestic and Overseas Port Administrative System and Practices. As part of the training, trainees also visited Yangshan Deepwater Port to better digest the teaching contents by combining practices with theories. Altogether 65 trainees from domestic ports, shipping departments and related enterprises participated in the Course. Being attached great importance by leaders from the Department of Water Transport under the Ministry of Transport and SISI, the Course featured congratulatory speeches from Weng Yi, Assistant to Director of the Department of Water Transport, and Zhen Hong, Secretary-General of SISI. At the end of the training, SISI issued certificates recognized by the Ministry of Transport to all participating trainees.
During the entire training, all lecturers made lucid explanations based on their own specialty of studies. With an emphasis on combining theories with practices and linking targets with measures, the training yielded substantial successes. Through training, the trainees have, by their own account, obtained a thorough understanding of the new information and trend in port management theories and practices, as well as improved their abilities to guide practical operation. In addition, the field visit has further instilled perceptual knowledge of each research project into the trainees’ mind, offering tremendous help for future work.
SISI will continue to organize trainings of this kind in the future, sparing no efforts in updating and uplifting the proficiency of port and shipping administrative departments and manufacturers in terms of professional theory and practical skill.
