Jointly organized by the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management of the Netherlands and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and supported by Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Commission, the “Roundtable on Smart and Sustainable Supply Chain - Development of a World-class International Shipping Center” was held in Shanghai on September 6, 2010. Zhang Shouguo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Water Transport under the Ministry of Transport, attended the roundtable and served as the Chinese co-host. Li Gang, Deputy Secretary-General of SISI was also invited to the roundtable and delivered a keynote speech of “Ideas on the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center”.
The Dutch guests of the roundtable were mainly from the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management of the Netherlands, Port of Rotterdam, Port of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, ECT under Hutchison Port Holdings, and port authorities. The Chinese guests were governmental officials and senior management from relevant enterprises.
At the roundtable, guests exchanged minds on several topics, such as the concept of international shipping center; smart, safe and sustainable logistics; port information sharing system; efficient hinterland transport; the safety, environment and development of human resources in logistics and transport; combined transport and connection among ports; and strategies and policies for ports and hinterlands. In addition to recognitions for the roundtable, both sides also expressed wishes for further cooperation and exchange.
