Featuring an important position and significance in the domestic and international economy, ports in the Yangtze River Delta serve as key strategic resources for the region to participate in global economic cooperation and competition, and play an increasingly bigger role in the economic and social development of the region. However, we’ve noticed a series of problems existing in the development of those ports, such as the lack of a master plan, vicious competition among the enterprises, and defective port management system. On the basis of fully understanding and analyzing the status quo and problems of the ports in the Yangtze River Delta, this research group conducts a special study of their integration mode, examines the objective requirements of their integration, summarizes the basic theories in that regard, and analyzes the future trend and challenges of those ports. Drawing on the experience and lessons learnt in domestic and foreign port integration, the research group proposes the overall thought, implementing plan, and policy suggestions for port integration in the Yangtze River Delta.
