DHL Global Forwarding has received a Certificate of Merit at the Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Award Scheme-Enterprise Sector in the Services Industry.
organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the award scheme sets out to raise awareness of corporate citizenship among local enterprises and to assist them in adopting it as their business strategies.
"One of DHL's four key pillars is 'to make a positive contribution to the world,' which helps steer our corporation in directions that are both sustainable and beneficial to our group, our stakeholders as well as the world," said Edward Hui, managing director for Hong Kong, Macau and South China. "We have formulated high-level strategies to ensure our executives commit to corporate social responsibility, and abide by our targets and policies when making decisions and policies," he said.
To ensure such targets are worked towards, DHL said it has established a dedicated global committee to provide advice and guidance to the management team on CSR. Locally, a Social Responsibility Committee plans and reviews local CSR programmes and company policies.
On the front of sustainability, the goal is to take action against climate change, implement its Environmental Management System (EMS), and balance the use of natural resources. "DHL is the first logistics company to set out carbon efficiency targets: 10 per cent reduction by 2012 and 30 per cent by 2020 through the GoGreen Programme that aims to reduce carbon footprint," a company statement said.
DHL launched Go Help, a natural disaster relief programme involving managing logistical processes during such situations that comprise disaster preparedness, emergency relief and reconstruction. In Hong Kong, the spirit of volunteerism among employees is celebrated through the Annual Volunteer Day and this year 4,000 employees took part in the event.
