Canadian National warns of spring thaw container weight restrictions
Date:2021-03-08 Readers:
ALL cold weather restrictions have been lifted across networks of the Canadian National Railway but spring thaw weight restrictions come into force from today (March 8) to late May.

Quebec Spring Weight Restrictions come into force to avoid backlogs of heavy loads requiring special handling.

"We are planning to have all heavy loads arrive in March prior to the start of restrictions. Severe cold and high snowfall present challenging conditions to safe railway operations, primarily to our braking system," said the company.

Thus dry containers of 53 feet are restricted to 49,100 lbs, or 47,700 lbs if heated, and 46,500 lbs if reefer. Ecotherm FEUs are restricted to 52,300 lbs while dry FEUs are restricted to 52,500 lbs with 45-footers restricted to 50,400 lbs will dry TEUs are limited to 51,600 lbs.
