DACHSER is investing EUR16 million (US$22.76 million) until March 2012 to develop a new logistics centre in Erlensee near Hanau in the Rhine-Main region.
District administrator Erich Pipa and mayor Stefan Erb joined the company's managing director Michael Schilling and Frankfurt branch manager Friedrich Wilhelm Wasser for the ground-breaking ceremony of the Frankfurt Ost logistics centre.
The 47,000-square-metre site in Erlensee will accommodate a 6,660-square-metre cross dock that will allow for simultaneous loading and unloading of 68 trucks, as well as a two-storey office building with around 2,000 square metres of usable floor space. Additional space is available for expansion of both buildings if necessary as the logistics provider also has secured an option on an adjacent site with an area of over two hectares.
"During the past five business years, the number of staff at the Dachser CargoCity Sued location has increased by more than 50 per cent. The tonnage transported has almost doubled, and the number of shipments broke through the sound barrier of one million a year for the first time in 2010," said Friedrich Wilhelm Wasser, manager of the Frankfurt logistics centre.
