EGYPT's Alkahera Company for Ferries and Maritime Transport (KCFMT) has contracted Dae Sun Shipbuilding, a South Korean shipyard, to build two multipurpose vessels, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
KCFMT, an affiliate of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport that presently runs two ferries - Cairo and Riyadh, is expecting delivery of the new ships in February and April of 2025.
"The two ships will facilitate the export of Egyptian products to regional markets, being able to transport general cargo, bulk cargo, heavy cargo, vehicles, project cargo, and refrigerated products, such as fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood," said Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir.
The cost of the 14,000-dwt vessels, which will have the capacity to transport 700 TEU and 98 reefer boxes, was not disclosed.
