Date:2023-07-07 Readers:
THE Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) lifted five per cent more cargo in May 2023 than in pre-pandemic May 2019, reports London's Port Technology.

In addition, the port moved 4.3 per cent more cargo in May than the previous month.

Furthermore, in May of this year, the port handled 676,311 TEU, representing 5.1 per cent more cargo than in May 2019.

This comes after PANYNJ handled 571,177 TEU in February, which was the highest amount of cargo recorded among US ports.

With 1.6 million TEU handled thus far in 2023, the port is the country's second-busiest in terms of loaded imports.

At the end of last year, the CMA CGM Group signed an agreement to acquire Bayonne and New York terminals currently held by Global Container Terminals (GCT).

More recently, in January 2023, it was reported that PANYNJ finished 2022 with record-high annual throughput handled.
