Antwerp-Bruges opt for mandatory box pick up based on ID
Date:2023-07-11 Readers:
THE Port of Antwerp Bruges have decided that all transport companies will be obliged to pick up containers based on a Certified Pick-Up system, reports London's Port Technology.

The announcement comes two months after the Port of Antwerp-Bruges launched the 'D-Hive drone-in-a-box' network to enhance port security.

This regulation is to take effect from January 15, meaning that pin codes for picking up a container will be completely eliminated.

This entails that all container imports at Antwerp container terminals will be handled exclusively through Certified Pick-Up.

In the coming months, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges will make Certified Pick-Up available for barge and rail at the terminals.

Following that, trial projects will begin at each terminal, and the connection with Secure Container Release will be completed for the shipping businesses involved.

In May 2023, the MSC Loreto arrived at the Port of Antwerp to load and unload containers at the MSC PSA European Terminal (MPET) at the Deurganckdock.

One month later, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges built an extensive digital radar and camera network for enhanced traffic management.
