EU's shipping emissions back to pre-Coved crisis levels
Date:2023-09-29 Readers:
NEW analysis by the EU's Transport & Environment (T&E) reveals that European shipping emissions reached an unprecedented peak last year, reports Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide.

This alarming trend has prompted T&E to emphasize that, given the UN's global shipping body's inability to establish binding emissions regulations during its landmark summit in July, Europe must forge ahead with its own ambitious decarburization strategy.

European shipping operators are legally required to provide their emissions data to the EU annually. Over the years, T&E has utilised this data to monitor the evolution of shipping emissions in Europe.

However, in July, T&E released data obtained from the EU, revealing that many operators had failed to submit their emissions data on time. As a result, Europe's total shipping emissions now exceed previous estimates.
