MAERSK recently entered into an agreement with Zhoushan Xinya Shipbuilding, marking the inception of the world's inaugural containership methanol dual-fuel conversion initiative, reports Athens Safety4Sea.
The formal contract was sealed during a special ceremony on October 18. In its official statement, Zhoushan Xinya Shipbuilding announced that the conversion to a dual-fuel methanol propulsion system is scheduled for 2024, and Maersk intends to extend this retrofit project to several of its sister vessels.
This partnership was officially forged by Shenzhen managing director Shasson Cohn and Ocean Asset Partnerships head Brian Voldsgaard at Maersk Procurement on behalf of their respective organisations.
