THE Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is set to inaugurate its digital bunkering initiative from November 1, making it the world's first port to introduce electronic bunker delivery notes (e-BDN), reports Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide.
This development was unveiled by State for Finance Minister Chee Hong Tat during the recent International Safety@Sea Conference.
Bunkering currently relies on physical bunker delivery notes, a standardised document mandated by the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships.
These documents contain vital information regarding fuel oil deliveries.
In a bid to enhance efficiency and transparency within the bunkering process in Singapore, the MPA will launch its digital bunkering initiative, incorporating electronic bunkering processes and documentation like e-BDN.
The initiative has undergone more than 100 trials since January 2023, engaging over 20 companies within the Singapore bunkering ecosystem.
User feedback will continue to be solicited to refine these solutions, with plans to make digital bunkering mandatory by the end of 2024.
