ONE orders 12 methanol dual-fuel boxships
Date:2023-11-29 Readers:
OCEAN Network Express (ONE), based in Singapore, has ordered 12 new methanol dual-fuel containerships, reports Rotterdam's Offshore Energy.

This order for 13,000 TEU containerships is divided between Chinese shipbuilders Jiangnan Shipyard and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, as reported by Intermodal Shipbrokers.

The distinguishing feature of these vessels is their dual-fuel capability, with methanol being the chosen fuel.

Anticipated for delivery in 2026 and 2027, these new builds align with ONE's commitment to environmental sustainability and form a key aspect of the company's Green Strategy.

The initiative is designed to fortify a sustainable supply chain for the future while highlighting ONE's broader plan for decarbonisation.

In March of this year, ONE had already inked a shipbuilding contract for ten methanol/ammonia-ready containerships.

These vessels are designed to be adaptable for methanol and ammonia, incorporating features like a bow shield and other energy-saving technologies.

This strategic move is in harmony with ONE's overarching green strategy and builds upon the 10 vessels ordered in May of the preceding year.
