The world's first large methanol-powered container ship is attached to the CICT terminal of China Merchants Port
Date:2024-03-04 Readers:
On the morning of February 24, 2024, the world's first large methanol-powered container ship - Maersk AE7 line "Ane Maersk" for the first time docked at CICT Terminal in Colombo, Sri Lanka. "Ane Maersk" is 350 meters long, 53.5 meters wide and has a capacity of 16,200 TEU. It is the first of 18 large methanol-powered ships owned by global shipping giant Maersk of Denmark to be put into operation.

CICT Terminal has a channel depth of 20 meters and a front water depth of 18 meters. It is the only deep-water container terminal currently in operation in South Asia. It has 14 advanced shore Bridges, the lift on the rail can reach 52.5 meters, and the overstretch can handle 26 rows of containers, which can operate the world's largest container ships (over 24,000 TEU).

Under the overall guidance of ESG work of China Merchants Group,CICT attaches great importance to ESG work, actively implements the dual carbon emission reduction requirements, and becomes the first green terminal in Sri Lanka and the largest in South Asia. In 2017,CICT completed the "oil to electricity" project for 40 gantry cranes and 40 container yards, reducing direct carbon emissions by 8,780 tons per year. At present,CICT is promoting the "oil to electricity" project of container trailers, and plans to replace a number of fuel trailers with electric trailers in recent years, further reducing the comprehensive carbon emission level of the terminal and improving the level of green port construction.
