Tianjin Port added a 200,000-ton waterway
Date:2024-03-20 Readers:
A few days ago, the Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration issued a navigational notice announcing the navigation parameters of the North Channel of Tianjin Port, which marks the official opening of the North Channel of Tianjin Port, the load rate of container ships in Tianjin Port will be effectively improved, the handling capacity of 16 200,000-ton container berths in the North Port pool will be fully released, and the overall service capacity of Tianjin Port will be further improved.

The North Channel of Tianjin Port is one of the main channels for container ships to enter and exit the Tianjin Port area, and builds the water channel between the new port channel and the container terminal companies in north and east Xinjiang. As the busiest navigable waters of Tianjin Port, with the increasingly obvious development trend of large-scale ships, the number of 200,000-ton container ships operating in Tianjin Port in 2023 reached 273, an increase of 33% over the previous year. Due to the lack of bottom elevation of the North Channel, the original -15.5 m water depth can no longer meet the needs of 200,000-ton container ships entering and leaving the port with full loads, and some high-draft ships need to enter and leave the port by tide, which restricts the turnover efficiency of ships in Tianjin Port and the construction of the ocean container route network. The depth of the existing channel needs to be dreached to -18.0 m to meet the normal navigation of 200,000-ton container ships.

The official opening of the North Channel of Tianjin Port has really opened up the "last kilometer" problem of large container ships entering and leaving the port, which will greatly improve the navigation environment of the waters, improve the efficiency of container ships entering and leaving the port areas of northern and eastern Xinjiang, effectively guarantee the safety of navigation in the waters, and enhance the overall business environment of Tianjin Port. At the same time, as Tianjin Port has the capacity of 200,000-ton container ships in full load and in full tide, the operation potential of 200,000-ton container berths in the north and east areas of Tianjin Port will be further released, increasing the enthusiasm of shipping companies for long-distance trunk ships to port, enhancing the service level and market competitiveness of Tianjin Port Group, and enhancing the construction of container route network of Tianjin Port It will provide strong support for Tianjin Port to better serve the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, play a land-sea meeting point of the "Belt and Road", an important node of the new Eurasian Land Bridge economic corridor, and an international hub port that is fully open to the outside world.

In the next step, Tianjin Port Group will take this opportunity, with the support of the Ministry of Transport, Tianjin Municipal Transport Commission, Tianjin Port and Navigation Administration and various port units, carry out the work of the North Channel operation, continuously enhance the port operation capacity and service radiation role, continue to improve the port business environment and shipping service level, and provide a strong support for further building "Tianjin port efficiency" It will lay an important foundation for building an important strategic fulcrum of connecting domestic and international double cycles in the northern region of China.
