Shanghai Yangshan Port completed the first ship green methanol unloading
Date:2024-03-25 Readers:
At 12 o 'clock on March 24, under the remote monitoring and on-site protection of the Marine Bureau of Yangshan Port, the "Sun Freesia" ship loaded with 500 tons of green methanol successfully docked at the Shengang Oil Terminal of Yangshan Port and began unloading operations, which is the first time in the history of the port of Shanghai to receive green methanol fuel cargo, further improving the diversification and cleanliness of the fuel supply of the port of Shanghai.

According to the introduction of the "Haidong Qing" studio member of the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration, in the current global response to climate change, green methanol is considered to be a more potential future decarbonization fuel, under the whole life cycle greenhouse gas emission framework, green methanol can reduce about 63%~99%, and can achieve the medium and long-term emission reduction goal of ships. The "Sun freesia" round is unloaded biomass methanol, which belongs to a kind of green methanol, and its production raw materials mainly come from renewable resources such as biomass, which produces lower carbon emissions in the production process and has less impact on the environment.

In order to ensure the smooth progress of the unloading operation, the Marine Bureau of Yangshan Port took the initiative to strengthen communication and coordination with dock enterprises, shipping companies, shipping agents and other units, master the information of "people, ship and cargo" in advance, guide the ship/shore parties to formulate risk prevention and control measures during unloading according to the characteristics of methanol cargo, and urge the ship/shore parties to strengthen emergency duty and ship-shore interface safety management. Strictly implement the "Ship/shore Safety Checklist" system to ensure the safety of unloading operations in port.

In order to meet the energy supply needs of mainstream green power ships and enable the construction of Shanghai International Shipping center, the Port of Shanghai has been expanding the application of new fuel and new energy in the port in recent years, and has been making new attempts to improve the layout of low-carbon facilities. The completion of green methanol unloading marks the basic formation of the "storage, transport and supply" chain of green methanol fuel in the port of Shanghai. It has laid a solid foundation for the successful landing of the first "ship-to-ship" methanol filling in the Port of Shanghai in the next step.
