Ports
The Red Sea crisis continues, and this port has been "basically paralyzed"
Date:2024-03-26 Readers:
According to the Israel Times, due to the continuous attacks by Houthi armed forces, a large number of shipping companies have changed their routes and stopped calling at the port of Eilat in southern Israel. At present, the port is facing serious financial problems.

A few days ago, the management of Eilat Port announced that it planned to fire 60 of the 120 workers, and the workers protested.

According to reports, Gideon, CEO of Port Eilat, once said that since the Houthi armed forces began to attack ships in the Red Sea, the number of sailing ships in Port Eilat has decreased by 85%. He said: "The port has been basically paralyzed and the traffic between ships has completely stopped."

It is understood that the main business of Eilat Port includes vehicle import and potash fertilizer export. The data shows that in 2023, a total of 149,000 vehicles were imported from the port of Eilat, and since 2024, this figure has been zero.

Gideon said: "Before, every month, we had 12-13 ships coming in and out, but now there is none. Last November, there were 50,000 cars in our port, but now there are only 10,000 cars. Car dealers come to pick up cars every day, but there are no new cars imported. "
