At 12: 00 on March 24th, under the remote monitoring and on-site guarantee of Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration, the vessel "Sun Freesia" loaded with 500 tons of green methanol successfully berthed at the Shengang Oil Terminal of Yangshan Port and started unloading operation. This is the first time in the history of Shanghai Port to receive green methanol fuel cargo, which further improved the diversification and cleanliness level of ship fuel supply in Shanghai Port.
According to the members of "Haidongqing" Studio of Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration, under the current global climate change response, green methanol is considered as a potential decarbonization fuel in the future. Under the framework of greenhouse gas emission in the whole life cycle, green methanol can reduce emissions by about 63%~99%, which can achieve the medium and long-term emission reduction targets of ships.
The "Sun Freesia" ship unloaded biomass methanol, which belongs to a kind of green methanol. Its raw materials are mainly from renewable resources such as biomass, and the carbon emissions generated in the production process are lower, which has less impact on the environment.
It is reported that in order to ensure the smooth unloading operation, Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration has actively strengthened communication and coordination with terminal enterprises, shipping companies, shipping agents and other units, grasped the information of "people, ships and cargo" in advance, guided the ship/shore parties to formulate risk prevention and control measures during unloading according to the characteristics of methanol cargo, urged the ship/shore parties to strengthen emergency duty and ship-shore interface safety management, and strictly implemented the "ship/shore safety checklist" system to ensure that
In order to meet the energy supply demand of mainstream green power ships and empower the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, Shanghai Port has made new attempts in expanding the application of new fuels and new energy in the port and improving the layout of low-carbon facilities in recent years. The completion of this green methanol unloading indicates that the "storage, transportation and supply" chain of green methanol fuel in Shanghai Port has basically formed, laying a solid foundation for the successful landing of the first "ship-to-ship" methanol filling in Shanghai Port.
