Hanwha Offshore & Marine announced today that it has recently received an order for four LNG carriers worth KRW 12,391 billion (approximately RMB 6.63 billion) from an Asian shipowner. So far this year, Hanwha Offshore has signed contracts for 12 LNG carriers, 2 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) and 2 ammonia carriers, with an order value of US$3.27 billion (approximately RMB 23.6 billion).
Hanwha Offshore did not specifically disclose who ordered the contract, but it is presumed to be Qatar's second project.
Previously, Hanwha Marine received orders for and successfully delivered 26 ships in the Qatar project carried out between 2004 and 2007, accounting for nearly half of the total 53 ships in the project, including 16 210,000㎥ class Q-Flex ships and 3 260,000㎥ class Q-Max ships. Hanwha Marine has set a record of building LNG carriers of various scales.
Hanwha Marine plans to raise the number of LNG carriers it builds annually from 22 to 24 from next year.
According to Clarksons Research, a British shipbuilding and shipping analyst, Hanwha Marine has built 179 of the 761 LNG carriers operating globally, ranking first in the world.
