On 28th March, the 7,000-car LNG dual-fuel car carrier (PCTC) No.4 vessel "THOR HIGHWAY", built by China Shipbuilding Group's Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSIC) and China Shipbuilding Trading (CSIT) for Norway's SFL, was signed and delivered, more than one month earlier than the contracted delivery date. The vessel was delivered more than one month ahead of the contractual delivery date. At the same time, this vessel is also the final vessel of the first batch of 4 dual-fuel car carriers built in South China.
The order for this series of vessels was signed in April 2021, which was the first order for GSIC to enter the car carrier construction market by "changing the track". Since then, GSIC has continuously received orders for 33 car carriers by virtue of its own technological advantages, with the largest ship type carrying 10,800 vehicles, leading the world in this market segment in terms of the number of orders received.
The four vessels of this series have the same main scale, with an overall length of 200 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a design draft of 8.6 metres, a design speed of 19 knots, a total of 13 decks, and a capacity of about 7,000 cars, of which two decks can be loaded with hydrogen-fuelled cars. The ship is designed with natural gas (LNG)/fuel oil dual-fuel propulsion system, and its Energy Efficiency Operation Index (EEDI) meets the latest IMO Phase III requirements, making it an energy-saving, environmentally friendly and highly efficient car carrier.
