Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, NCLH) has placed the largest new shipbuilding order in history, will be its three major cruise brands to build as many as eight large cruise ships, scheduled to be delivered in the decade from 2026 to 2036.

On 8 April, Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri (Fincantieri) released a news release on its official website, saying that the group received an important order during the world's largest cruise industry exhibition held in Miami, and will build up to eight large cruise ships for Norwegian Cruise Line Holding's three major cruise brands Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line, the three major cruise brands of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.

Under the agreement, four of the newbuilds in the order have been secured and the shipbuilding contracts are now in force. Two of the ships will be built for Regent Seven Seas Cruises and are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2029, with a gross tonnage of 77,000 and a capacity of about 850 passengers; the other two ships will be built for Oceania Cruises and are expected to be delivered in 2027 and 2028, with a gross tonnage of 86,000 and a capacity of about 1,450 passengers. According to the shipbuilder, the ships will be the pinnacle of technology, comfort and entertainment in today's cruise industry, as well as an example of environmental sustainability.

The order, which includes four additional ships for which letters of intent have been signed, will become effective upon receipt of financing guarantees and fulfilment of other terms/conditions, and will mark a very important new phase in the long-term partnership between the two groups. four of the ships will be built for Novozymes Cruises, and are expected to be delivered in 2030, 2032, 2034, and 2036, respectively, and will be the largest ships ever built by the cruise brand. They will be the largest cruise ships ever built by the brand, with a gross tonnage of approximately 200,000 and a capacity of approximately 5,000 passengers each.

Under the strategic order, all three of Norwegian Cruise Line's brands will build new classes of ships with new ship characteristics and will prioritise size, efficiency and innovation in their respective fleets. This new shipbuilding programme is in line with Norwegian Cruise Line's commitment to sustainability and is expected to contribute significantly to decarbonisation.

The exact value of the order has not yet been announced, and further details on the specific parameters of the ships, their cabins, catering, entertainment, as well as efficiency, sustainability and other features will be announced in the coming months.
